Q. What can I do for a quick fix for my kitchen? A.PAINT! PAINT! PAINT! Walls and virtually all kitchen surfaces can be painted. Porcelain, like enamel, will be strong on countertops. Oven doors and other appliances will appear like new with Appliance Epoxy. Cabinets need to be primed with a heavy duty primer. Benjamin Moore sells paint for kitchens and baths.
Q. Is lead paint dangerous? A.As long as it isn't chipping or peeling, it is not a hazard for adults. If lead is creating airborne dust you should probably call a lead abatement contractor to remove it. There are paints that can encapsulate the existing lead paint.
Q. I hesitate to paint my apartment now because of the paint fumes. Are there new products that can be used? A.Many Manufacturers offer specially formulated paints that do not produce fumes or odor. Low-VOC and Zero-VOC paints contain few volatile organic compounds and are environmentally friendly. Natural paints are available today that are low in bothersome chemicals.
